I've waited a while for this review while I put the scrubber through a good workout. The other night I made beef stew in my cast iron skillet, and did two things wrong. I let the gravy reduce to the point that some of the veggies stuck to the bottom, and I didn't clean it right away. When I did go to clean it, all those stuck veggie pieces were nice and rock hard. Some hot water, a couple of minutes of not real vigorous scrubbing, and back to smooth and shiny again. I used to use a stiff plastic bristle brush and a plastic scrubbie to clean the pan. Both would get real grungy and were hard to clean. They are now gone. This chainmail scrubber is all I need.
I have found that the easiest way to use it is to pull the corners together so it forms a sort of ball. It is easier to direct and focus one's effort that way.

Edit 12/31/14: Just a quick addition. The instructions say to clean your pan while it is still warm. That's great, but make sure it isn't too warm - those metal links quickly pick up any heat from the pan and can get uncomfortably warm very quickly.

Edit 4/5/15: I cleaned the glass carousel tray from my microwave today. Being typically male, it had a big buildup of burned on food like gravy that didn't want to come off. A minute or two of swirls with my cleaner and perfectly clean tray - with NO scratches on the glass. That is how gentle this cleaner can be. I wouldn't use it on non-stick coatings, but Pyrex and Corning ware would be just fine.

This gets grime off of my pans easily seriously decreasing my pan cleaning time and putting an end to me soaking and rusting my pans. It has a gratifying tactile feel, rinses easily(although it says dishwasher safe) and has a ring to hang from my wall hooks over the sink. My boyfriend usually does the dishes but always skips the cast iron because he "doesn't know how" to clean them. Hopefully, this will make learning easier as it comes with a step by step instruction card on how to clean cast iron. lol. ;) Also, it came in minimal packaging so I appreciated this eco-friendly effort.

Only thing for those of us with long, natural nails is that sometimes if you aren't careful the chain mail can pinch your nail and you just have to pause to pull the link off. This was resolved by me balling it up instead of using it flat like a rag.

Can't stress enough how happy I am to have discovered this product, only wish I came across it sooner!

Most of our cookware is the nonstick type, which we clean with a fiber scraper and a sponge. But we do have a couple of pieces of cast iron that we use mostly for making cornbread. But to give the chainmail scrubber a really tough test, I decided to use it on an ancient cast iron skillet that belonged to my mother-in-law. It had been stored in a very humid location and had not been cleaned in years, and it had a lot of corrosion and mold on it. Using the chainmail and some elbow grease, the skillet looked a lot better after some hard scrubbing. It looks good enough that I think it can be rehabilitated and used again. The chainmail itself was easy to rinse off with hot soapy water, but we put it in the dishwasher to make sure it was clean.

The chainmail scrubber is a pretty nifty cleaning product, especially for cast iron.

So I feel silly, I had no idea there was a specific way to clean a cast iron. I've ruined a dozen cast irons because I wash it with hot soapy water and soak it sometimes, I used to get rust on them so I'd throw it out.
When I saw this promotion to try for a free honest and unbiased review, I went for it, who knew they had specific cast iron cleaners lol not me!

Anyways when I got this, it really didn't look like much. It came in a plastic bag with instructions and I decided I'd make pork chops tonight for dinner so I could use this, we all know pork chops make a huge mess so perfect opportunity to try the cast iron cleaner.

So after dinner (btw my chops were so good) I followed the simple instructions: When pan was basically warm, I placed it in the sink and ran warm water into the pan then took to it and scrubbed for a good minute, it took all of the residue off of my skillet and I just rinsed and dried it. This apparently helps leave the seasonings on so I'll have to update this review soon with more results!

I give this a 5 star for a great first time experience, quality product and easy to clean!

I never knew that this was a good/easy way to clean cast iron. I knew I had been doing things wrong since I always end up using a little soap (I know, a big no-no). However, this was wonderful to use and it's not just for cast iron. I decided to toss it into a glass dish that had cooked on potatoes. It worked great for that as well! I wouldn't suggest using it on non-stick since it could scratch it but stainless steel pots, glass and cast iron.

I have it hanging in my kitchen next to the sink so I can grab it anytime. It washes up just like anything else in the sink and dries better if hung up. I was provided a sample for review.
